Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants faced each other in a LSG vs RR match in the 26th match of the IPL 2023. The match was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 19, Wednesday.
This was Rajasthan’s first match of the season in their own home Jaipur. Earlier, they had their first two home matches at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium of Guwahati. With four wins from RR’s five matches, Rajasthan was currently placed at the top the IPL 2023 points table.
Lucknow have also had a good start and till now have occupied the second spot with three wins out of their five games. On the other hand, they have also suffered a heartbreaking loss against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) previously in Lucknow on Saturday, April 15. They failed to defend a target of 160.
Highlights of the LSG vs RR match:
Lucknow set a target of 154/7 after being put to bat first after loosing the toss. However, the match ended with a big 10-run victory for LSG. KL Rahul and his team did a fantastic job with the bowling. They defended the lowest total of this season. Kyle Mayers was the top performer in batting for LSG, with a score of 51 runs off 42 balls. Rahul also added 39 runs to support the Lucknow based franchise.
For Rajasthan Royals, their off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick amongst the bowlers. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two crucial and important wickets in the match and only conceded a sum of 23 runs from his own bowled four overs.
RR’s run chase started off on dynamically, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler making a brilliant 87-run strong partnership. However, the middle-order of the batters failed miserably to score runs, making things hard for their team.
With a total of 19 runs required from the final over of the match, the pressure was on Riyan Parag and Devdutt Paddikal to seal the win for Rajasthan. Avesh Khan also bowled the over well, conceding away just eight runs and taking two wickets too, and Lucknow emerged as the winner.

Here, are some incidents that made it to social media either for appreciation or for the criticism:
1. Sanju Samson sacrificed his wicket after a mix-up with player Jos Buttler
Rajasthan’s skipper Sanju Samson walked out to bat at third position in the run chase. Sanju as a batter was expected to fire with the bat, with his impressive form.
However, his stay at the ground was cut short as he was dismissed after scoring just two runs. Samson was declared run out in the 13th over of the match after a mix-up with player Jos Buttler.
Buttler replied to the short fine-leg fielder off Ravi Bishnoi’s ball. Both batters started running for a single, but there was some chaos once the fielder got the ball.
Samson eventually had to sacrifice his own wicket by going for a single. Buttler was trolled by many on social media following the Samson’s mix up dismissal.
2. Riyan Parag defends a ball in the 19th over of LSG vs RR
RR’s team management backed Parag to get the job done occasionally, sending him to bat after Dhruv Jurel and Ravichandran Ashwin.
This batter started off slowly. Interestingly, he chose a defensive shot in the 19th over and got off the strike in the match.
While he did smash a six later in the over, the RR supporters were unhappy over his approach. Parag scored 15 runs from 12 balls and remained unbeaten in the match.
3. Deepak Hooda’s stunning catch in the final over of the match
Lucknow based franchise player Deepak Hooda showcased great performance in the important final over of their run chase. He took a wonderful catch at the long-on boundary and dismissed Dhruv Jurel of Rajasthan Royals.
With 16 runs required from three balls, Dhruv literally had no other option but to go for a big shot. He got dismissed at his try with a big shot.
